As you can see, we’ve made a lot of changes in the past week.
The biggest change being the format of the newspaper itself. Starting this week, the Star will be printed in Jackson at the same press which prints the Jackson Hole News & Guide. The News & Guide is not only one of the best newspapers in Wyoming, but in the nation and part of that comes from the high-quality press work involved in printing the newspaper. We’re excited to be able to work with the crew at Teton Media Works.
The page size has gotten shorter as a result, but that’s nothing for our readers to be concerned about. We’re printing in a tabloid format as opposed to the broadsheet format readers are accustomed to. While the vertical space of each page decreases in this change, we’re adding pages to each newspaper so compensate for the change.
Beyond that, another change readers likely noticed is the change in how the cover of the newspaper looks, especially with the flag, which is newspaper speak for the space reserved for the title of the publication. The printing change afforded us a chance to freshen up the Star’s look. We opted to move forward with a more traditional design as opposed to the logo badge we have used over the past several years. We also decided to show off Green River’s icon, Castle Rock, in the background as well.
There will be some more additions readers will find in the coming weeks. The biggest is we plan to add a comics page to the newspaper. Comics have always been a popular addition to newspaper, providing much-needed levity to a publication focused on some of the more serious aspects of life. It also opens the newspaper up to more readers, especially children.
Aside from those changes, we continue to seek contributing writers as well. Sports, community events, local government -- any interest is welcome and contributing writers will be paid per article. Photography submissions are also welcome.
Thank you for your continued support for the Green River Star. We hope you enjoy what we have in store for the residents of Green River and Sweetwater County.
