Leah Louise Lind Hooton, 89, passed away February 19, 2021 at Legacy House Assisted Living Center in Spanish Fork, Utah. She had been a resident of Legacy House for the past year and a former resident of Green River, Wyoming for 64 years.
Leah was born December 15, 1931 on the Lind Ranch, five miles from Lyman, Wyoming. Her parents were Allyn Wilbur Lind and Electa Hortense Dansie Lind. She had 3 older brothers: Robert Allyn, Rex Wilbur and Jack Roland Lind.
When Leah was thirteen, the family moved to Lyman, and she lived there until she married. She attended Lyman Grade School (grades 1-8) and graduated from Lyman High School in 1950. In 1976, after the death of her husband, she enrolled at WWCC, and received a Bookkeeping Certificate in May 1977.
She married Herbert Raymond Hooton on May 21, 1949 in Evanston, Wyoming. Four children were born to this union: Kaye Louise, James Herbert, Anne Elaine and David C.
Leah worked at Holdings Little America, for 16 years as a souvenir clerk. She also worked for Pioneer Specialists and Wyoming Land and Title company until her retirement in 1995.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leah served as a Primary president and teacher, MIA teacher, drama director and president twice. She was a Relief Society president and Visiting Teacher, a youth Sunday School teacher, a Gospel Doctrine teacher, ward organist and participant in ward choirs and served as a Stake Relief Society secretary. She was a Family History and Indexing consultant. Leah served 3 full-time missions: Arizona-Holbrook Mission, Tulsa Oklahoma Mission and Los Angeles Family History Mission. She also served a two year Green River Stake mission.
Leah is survived by a daughter, Elaine Hymas and husband Dale of Payson, Utah, a son David Hooton and wife Kathy of Lyman, Wyoming, fourteen grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, one great great grandson, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, all three brothers, her husband Herbert, daughter Kaye and son James (Jim).
Burial will be at the Lyman, Wyoming cemetery. At Leah's request, there will be a private family service only. The family respectfully requests no flowers be sent.
The family would like to thank the staff at Legacy House for the wonderful care they provided Leah during her stay.
