Girls lose to Cody Saturday

Following a canceled game against Riverton Friday, the Green River High School girls basketball team took a narrow loss Saturday against Cody.

The girls fell 46-40 to Cody in a low-scoring game where the Lady Wolves lacked energy throughout the competition.

“We didn’t have enough energy during our press,” head coach Rick Carroll said. “We looked tired and we had tired legs when we played.”

Carroll said the girls defense was good throughout the day, but issues involving communication and court awareness also contributed to their loss.

While the Lady Wolves were able to hold the Fillies to 28 points throughout the game, including a six-point first quarter, mental lapses from the Green River squad led to the Lady Fillies making up the points in free throws. By the end of the game, the Fillies scored 18 of 27 free throws, giving them an edge.

“That makes it hard to make up the points,” Carroll said.

The following week will allow the girls to play at home Thursday when they take on the Lady Red Devils from Evanston. Following that fame, they will travel to Jackson Saturday.

“Hopefully, we see a lot of improvement from this last outing with Cody,” Carroll said.

During the game, Kayde Strauss lead the team in scoring, earning 16 points for the Lady Wolves, which includes two three-point shots. Gabby Heiser led the team in assists, making six throughout the day.

Kelsi Angelovich and Strauss led the team in rebounds, with both players making six.

As of press time, a makeup game with Riverton has not been scheduled. Carroll said he isn’t sure if a make-up game will take place as the teams are nearing the end of the basketball season.
