While other sports had the opportunity to take a break over the holidays, the Green River High School Swimming and Diving Team hit the road to compete in meets in Laramie and at Cheyenne East Dec. 30-31.
Head coach Colleen Seiloff said the boys continued to work had and cut times during the meet.
While they weren't able to add to the list of swimmers qualifying for state, Seiloff said some of the boys added to the number of events they qualified for.
"They were really solid I think," she said.
Seiloff said the boys are swimming tired, but fought hard against some of 4A's most competitive teams. This was at a time when some of the swimmers were unable to compete as they were with family over the holidays.
Seiloff said Christmas can be tough for athletes because they can easily fall off the routine they otherwise follow during the season.
This includes eating more homemade treats than they would normally have. Seiloff said she has the swimming team swim longer practices over the break to help combat this and the swimmers take part in the tradition of "100 100s," which focuses on the swimmer swimming 10,000 yards in one session on New Year's Day. This distance equates to nearly 5.7 miles.
