Swimmers dominate in Rock Springs

The Green River High School boys swimming team started the season with a splash in their first two meets of the season.

The Wolves competed at a meet in Rock Springs Friday, then participated in the Rawlins Pentathlon Saturday. In Rock Springs, the 3A team took first, scoring 421 points at the meet. The team's success continued Saturday, taking second with 153 points/ Of the team's 19 swimmers and divers, 13 qualified for state.

"I was pleased with the way they performed," head swimming coach Colleen Seiloff said. "They did really well."

Amongst those qualifying for state are the team's four divers, Braxton Cordova, Kyle Kight, River Kirts and Stone Rubeck. In previous years, the Wolves have struggled to field a competitive diving group while excelling in other aspects of competition.

"It was a weakness in the past," Seiloff said. "We're definitely not unhappy to have those divers."

The Wolves will compete at home this weekend in a busy two-day series of four meets at the high school's aquatics center.

Green River will participate in three of the meets, swimming twice Friday and once Saturday. Seiloff said the scheduling was due to COVID-19 restrictions that prevent more than 80 swimmers or four teams from competing at once.
