It may not have been the result he wanted, but “Magic” Mike Hamel came out of his first Bellator fight with a strong showing.
Hamel competed at Bellator 243 against Adam Borics Friday evening, losing to the Hungarian fighter in a split decision. Following the loss, Hamel said he’s doing what he normally does after a fight -- take the next week off.
“I take a week off regardless,” he said.
Hamel said he plans to spent the time with his wife and enjoy food he normally doesn’t get to eat while training, saying he plans to visit some restaurants he’s had his eye on. He also plans to get some of the bumps he received in the fight checked.
After the fight, he said his wife and father were supportive of his effort, saying he likely gained new fans and respect after the fight.
“I think I did a great job,” Hamel said.
He said he also received an overwhelming amount support from friends and family throughout the country, including those living in Green River.
As far as what the future holds, Hamel said it’s in the air. He said he will have to talk with his manager to find out if Bellator is interested in having him fight on a future show. Hamel said he would like to fight at three or four times a year and said his loss wasn’t a deterrent on his career.
