Several local nonprofit groups are set to benefit if the Green River City Council approves its yearly community service agreements.
The Council was set to vote on the measure Tuesday night, approving the agreements in its consent agenda. The funding, which amounts to more than $104,000, was included as part of the 2020-2021 budget. The agreements don’t include the full list of organizations the Council budgeted this year. A $90,000 grant was budgeted for the Green River Chamber of Commerce, but was not included in Tuesday’s list.
Organizations receiving funding through the approval are:
Sweetwater County Food Bank, $20,000
Golden Hour Senior Center, $22,000
Youth Home, $7,392
Sweetwater Family Resource Center, $5,800
Drug Treatment Court of Sweetwater County, $7,000
STAR Transit, $22,520
YWCA Family Justice Center, $10,000
Climb Wyoming, $5,000
United Way of Southwest Wyoming, $4,500
The city maintained its grant funding to local organizations at a time when other local grants have been reduced.
“We funded every request fully,” Mayor Pete Rust said. “They serve our citizens ... to me, they’re quasi city organizations.”
Rust said the city is in a better financial position that other municipal governments throughout Wyoming. The city ended its previous fiscal year in June with a $650,000 carryover. He said the city is anticipating one-time funding through the state’s Industrial Siting Council for local expansion projects, such as the planned expansion at Ciner.
The city wasn’t the only governmental group considering service agreements. The Sweetwater County commissioners voted to approve three service contracts amounting to $407,687. The contracts go to:
Young at Heart Senior Center, $281,337
Hospice of Sweetwater County, $71,250
Sweetwater Family Resource Center, $55,100
