While event cancellations may have the Sweetwater Events Complex struggling during the global pandemic, its future is bright after an announcement made last week.
The events complex announced it will host the Newmar Kountry Klub International Rally July 18-22, 2022.
“Although times are tough the Sweetwater Events Complex and its recruitment efforts are key to helping our local economy bounce back,” Larry Lloyd, the executive director of the complex, said. “All events at our facility directly stimulate our local economy through restaurants, gas stations, hotels and motels and more. The Sweetwater Events Complex is a key component to the tourism in our state and is proud to be an economic engine for both Sweetwater County and the City of Rock Springs.”
The complex was originally scheduled to host the Newmar rally in August, but the event was cancelled as the coronavirus pandemic response started impacting businesses and travel plans.
The event is estimated to bring 1,250 visitors to the area and nearly $1 million into the area’s economy. While the rally takes place over a five-day period, many attendees arrive prior to the event or stay after it ends. Overall, the event brings approximately 500 motor coaches, 100 vendors and 55 service technicians to the event. A release from the events complex states many of the vendors and technicians are expected to utilize more than 500 hotel rooms within the county.
