The number of Democrats filing for both state offices and the Sweetwater County commissioner race jumped significantly in the final days of election filing, leading to a primary contest for Democrats in House District 60.
Lindsey Travis and Mike Burd filed to seek election to Green River’s House District 60 as Democrats. The two join Republicans Ted Barney and Mark Baker in campaigning for the seat, creating an important Primary Election contest on both sides of the ballot.
Democrats have also filled their side of the ballot for the two Sweetwater County commissioner positions up for election this year. Former Sweetwater County Sheriff Dave Gray of Rock Springs and Chairman of Wyoming Democratic Party Joe Barbuto, also of Rock Springs, have filed for election and will go straight to the General Election on the Democrats’ side of the ticket. They will face the top two Republicans in a four-person Primary Election contest between incumbents Wally Johnson and Lauren Schoenfeld and their challengers Mark Peterson and Mary Thoman.
In House District 39, Democrat Stan Blake is unopposed in his re-election bid. In a race impacting portions of Sweetwater County, three Republicans are vying for the House District 18 legislative seat. Thomas Crank of Diamondville is seeking re-election to the post, but faces a primary challengers in Mike Lundgren of Kemmerer and Scott Heiner from Sweetwater County.
In House District 48 in Rock Springs, Republican Clark Stith is uncontested in his re-election effort. For House District 17, Chad Banks, the manager of the Rock Springs Urban Renewal Agency and Main Street organization, has filed as a Democrat and is uncontested in that election. The incumbent, Joann Dayton-Selman, announced her intent to retire as the district’s representative before filing had concluded.
In Senate District 12, Liisa Anselmi-Dalton, the incumbent Democrat, is facing a challenge from Republican and former Sweetwater County Commissioner John Kolb.
In the election campaign for U.S. Senate, 16 people have filed for election. Ten of those who filed are Republicans and are Bryan E. Miller, R. Mark Armstrong, Devon Cade, Donna Rice, John Holtz, Josh Wheeler, Michael Kemler, Robert G. Short, Star Roselli and Cynthia Lummis.
The Democrats running for the U.S. Senate seat are James Kirk DeBrine, Kenneth R. Casner, Merav Ben David, Nathan Wendt, Rex While and Yana Ludwig.
For U.S. House, incumbent Republican Liz Cheney faces a Primary Election challenger in Blake Stanley, while Democrats Carl Beach, Carol Hafner and Lynnette Grey Bull also seek to replace Cheney.
