While candidates have filed to run for positions on the Green River City Council in Wards 1 and 3, no one has filed to seek election for Ward 2.
Councilwoman Lisa Maes’ term in Ward 2 expires at the end of the year. She did not file for re-election.
According to Green River Finance Director Chris Meats, the elections laws have changed since the last time the city was faced with this situation.
Meats said the primary ballots in Ward 2 will have a write-in option and the two names with the highest number of write-in votes will be placed on the General Election ballot.
Meats said there will be a write-in option on the second ballot with the two names as well.
If a Council member is unable to be selected through the election process, Meats said the Council would initiate its appointment process to fill the vacancy.
In the upcoming Council elections, a race has developed for the Ward 1 seat. Incumbent Councilman Tom Murphy faces a challenge from Sherry Bushman.
Meanwhile in Ward 3, Robert Berg is unopposed in his re-election bid.
In Granger, five candidates are seeking election for two seats on the town Council.
Stanley Jorensen, Dawn Mansir, John A. Styvar, Daniel D. Soto Jr., and Harry Mansir have filed for that election.
A four-way race has developed for the Ward 4 city Council seat in Rock Springs. The Council position is currently held by David Tate, who has opted not to run for re-election. Those seeking to replace him are Rose Mosbey, Brent Bettolo, RJ Pieper and Larry Elder. In Ward 3, two people are vying for election as a race between Larry Hickerson and former mayoral and U.S. House of Representatives candidate Ryan Greene. The position is currently vacant as Glennise Wendorf recently resigned from the role.
In Ward 2, Rob Zotti is unopposed in his re-election bid while Tim Robinson is unopposed in his election bid in Ward 1. Councilman Billy Shalata has decided not to seek re-election to the position.
In Wamsutter, Sally Garwood has filed for a four-year town Council position while Gerald Proberts is the sole candidate for a two-year, unexpired term.
