The Wolves were crowned state champions, but were later told they took second after what was described at a clerical error awarded Kelly Walsh with the points needed to take first place.
The decision is being contested by Sweetwater County School District No. 2 after a meeting between school officials and members of the Wyoming High School Athletics Association Monday. According to Tony Beardsley, athletics director for the district, a hearing to determine which team is in fact the state champions has yet to be scheduled.
Overall, the Wolves wrestled well at the competition, with five champions crowned at the event. They are Clayson Mele, Dominic Martinez, Payton Tucker, Tommy Dalton, and Kade Flores. Kaden Lloyd took second at the tournament, while Jacob Weipert took third in his weight class.
