The Wolves continue their winning ways on the wrestling mat, scoring victories against Evanston Wednesday and at the conference duals in Rock Springs Saturday.
The Wolves defeated the Red Devils 63-15 at a home dual Wednesday night, then scored a total 126 points at the conference duals. However, winter travel problems meant not all the teams scheduled to compete were able to participate.
For head coach Josh Wisniewski, just because his boys are doing well in competition doesn't mean they're going to take it easy.
"I'm happy, but never satisfied," he said.
He said the Ron Thon tournament in Riverton two weeks ago was a great measuring stick for his team and intends to use the momentum built from that win and the wins during the last week to prepare for Regionals and State.
The team practices have emphasized the focus on those two events as well, with Wisniewski reducing the amount of time in practice, but ramping up the intensity.
"I want to keep their legs fresh for Regionals and State," he said.
Overall, he believes all of his wrestlers are improving with each dual. The team's upperclassmen, such as Payton Tucker and Clayson Mele ,continue to earn wins, but the younger wrestlers are making their mark as well. Wisniewski said Thomas Dalton, a freshman, took first in his weight class at Ron Thon and wrestled well at the conference duals.
Wisniewski believes the team is peaking at the right time and is happy with the overall makeup of his team. He said taking his wrestlers to larger tournaments outside of Wyoming introduced his team to strong programs throughout the western states. He said they've gotten exposed to strong competition from Wyoming teams as well and have been able to persevere throughout the season.
So long as his wrestlers stay healthy, he believes the Wolves will make a great showing at Regionals.
The Wolves will take on the Tigers in Rock Springs Thursday, at 6 p.m.
