GR takes close wins at Tiger Arena Thurs.

Both the Wolves and Lady Wolves basketball teams enjoyed narrow victories against their Rock Springs rivals Thursday evening during a trip to the Tigers’ Den.

The Lady Wolves scrapped by with a 53-50 win while the Wolves earned a 55-52 win. An away game with Kelly Walsh was cancelled after both teams were turned back at Rawlins. According to head girls coach Rick Carroll, the makeup games are scheduled to take place Monday.

For Carroll, he’s happy with the win, but didn’t think the girls played as well as they should have. Carroll said the girls has troubles shooting the ball well and said while the Lady Wolves did not turn over the ball a lot, there were turnovers that should not have happened. Regardless of those issues, Carroll thought the rivalry match was a good game for the Lady Wolves.

Madelyn Heiser led the Lady Wolves in scoring against the Lady Tigers, scoring 15 points. Megan Counts followed her lead with 10 points during the game.

Overall, he sees steady improvement with how the girls are playing. He said they’re seeing the floor well and are taking good care of the ball on offense and defense. Right now, his concerns remain focused on his players’ health and hoping the girls don’t get impacted by illness as the season wraps up.

Aside from the makeup game in Casper Monday, both teams will have a busy weekend ahead of them. On Friday, Green River hosts Riverton. The girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the boys will plat at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, Green River hosts Cody, with the girls playing at 3 p.m. The Wolves hit the court at 4:30 p.m.
