The Green River High School Speech and Debate Team joined 29 other teams last weekend in Casper for the Mustang Classic at Natrona County High School. Although weather and road closures prevented the team from staying around for the ceremony to collect them, several members of the team earned awards.
Green River was well represented in the Lincoln Douglas debate with three students breaking out of the preliminaries and into the octo-finals: Levi Peterson, Iria Lopez, and Jessica Petri. Lopez advanced to the quarter finals and Petri continued on to the semi-final round. Petri also made it to the final round of the Big Questions debate
Kamilyn Lloyd came away with an impressive first place finish in the Impromptu Finals that included 52 total entries. Will Allen ended in second place out of 36 total entries in Humorous Interpretation, and Will Allen and Elijah Kropf placed third in Duet Interpretation.
Alex Shafe and Lucas Bagshaw earned a spot in the Policy Debate elimination bracket with a fifth place finish in the preliminary rounds.
Shelbee McFadden also had a great weekend with a third place finish in the House 2 debate and an eighth place finish in the Congressional Debate
The team will take a well-deserved break from travelling before they head off to their next tournament in Greybull Feb. 21 and 22.
