Debaters earn another 1st place finish

With 47 schools being represented across Utah, including Green River and Rock Springs, the Green River Speech and Debate team had an excellent tournament turn out at the Marie Clegg Jones Memorial Tournament in Orem, Utah.

Students Spencer Travis placed sixth in extemporaneous speaking and Alex Shafe was a finalist in the same event. Will Allen and Dallin Kurth entered into quarter finals in public forum Debate.

Jessica Petri broke in Lincoln Douglas debate semifinals and earned the title of best speaker for her event. Emma Christiansen also broke in informative speaking finals.

Shelbee Mcfadden placed sixth in Congress finals.

In interpretive events, students Hayley Cloward placed second in dramatic interpretation, Mia Worrell and Eli Thomas placed third in duo and in humorous interpretation, Anastazia Fox placed fourth and Sabian Maez placed first. Olivia Nielsen placed first in poetic oral interpretation.

These scores combined to help lead the team to a championship win for large schools at the tournament. The team takes it on the road again this weekend to the Natrona County Tournament in Casper.
