The Wolves and Lady Wolves traveled to Eastern Wyoming over the weekend to compete in the Taco Johns tournament hosted in Cheyenne and Laramie.
The boys struggled throughout the tournament, losing close games throughout the weekend. The boys suffered a 52-49 loss against Laramie Thursday, followed by a 63-59 loss to Wheatland Friday and a 67-64 loss to Cheyenne South Saturday. The boys have a 2-9 record so far.
The girls saw more success over the weekend, coming home with two wins. The girls took the win against Laramie Thursday in a 67-36 contest. Their second outing ended in a heartbreaking 52-50 loss to Natrona Friday, but they were able to rebound Saturday with a 58-34 win over Cheyenne South. The girls’ record is 8-3.
When talking about the loss to Natrona, head girls coach Rick Carroll said the team didn’t start the game well. Overall, he said the team had a good amount of success over the weekend, but sees the team playing inconsistently throughout their games.
He said some of the players tend to lose focus during the game and pay less attention to some of the fundamentals they should be practicing. Once the team gets a better focus on the court, he bleives the Lady Wolves will be much more effective throughout the entire game.
Both teams will be traveling to Gillette to take on Thunder Basin in a non-conference game. The boys will play at 7:30 p.m., while the girls will hit the court at 6 p.m.
Carroll said the match will be a tough one for the Lady Wolves as Thunder Basin is the defending state champions. However, he expects a competitive contest between the two.
“It’s going to be quite the game,” he said.
