Man arrested after crash

Green River police officers arrested a 45-year-old North Dakota an following an alleged hit-and-run collision Friday.

Leif Johannessen, 45, of Dickinson, N.D., was arrested after officers discovered he had an active warrant from an original charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol, second offense within 10 years.

At 6:34 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Roosevelt Drive and Uinta Drive to a report of a hit-and-run collision where two people had fled the scene on foot.

It was reported a vehicle was traveling southbound on Uinta Drive, approaching the intersection with Roosevelt Drive when another vehicle drove across the southbound lanes of travel and turned onto Roosevelt, striking the driver’s side of the first vehicle.

Officers were notified of where the driver of the second vehicle was possibly hiding and began searching for him. Officers spoke with an individual who said a person had come into their shop and appeared to be hiding from something before leaving the building.

Officers then received reports of one of the suspects entering a nearby apartment. Officers went to the residence and spoke with an individual who claimed the suspect was not there. Officers later found the driver of the vehicle inside the apartment.

Johannessen was issued citations for alleged hit and run, a turn signal violation, and trespassing. The occupant in the apartment, Jarren Johannessen, 18, of Green River, was issued a citation for alleged interference with a peace officer. Officers were unable to locate the passenger in Johannessen’s vehicle.

The other driver involved in the crash was evaluated by emergency medical personnel. Further information was unavailable as of press time.
