Lady Wolves prepare for State swim meet

With the regular season coming to an end, the Lady Wolves swimming and diving team is preparing for State.

State takes place this week in Gillette and the Lady Wolves know Laramie High School is the team to beat.

All season long, the team has seen Laramie dominate the competition, but they are still setting their sights on a top-three finish. Head coach Colleen Seiloff said the team would like to bring home a State trophy.

Seiloff said Cheyenne Central and Campbell County will also be tough teams to beat at State, but a top three finish is within the Lady Wolves reach.

Those making this year’s State team are Adrienne Merrick, Lilly Munoz, Madison Bauers, Madi Young, Kaycee Olsen, Cherylann Moritz, Sydni Sanders, Amaya Spartz, Lauren Jensen, Lauren Lee, Hailey Uhrig, Jade Arnell, Alexa Lauze and Merika Moffatt.

Moffatt qualified for State in the 50-yard freestyle at the last-chance meet, which took place in Green River last week.

“Everybody was excited for her,” Seiloff said. “That was cool.”

Seiloff has said throughout the season she would like at least 15 Lady Wolves to qualify for State, but she’ll have to settle with 14.

“I’m happy with it,” Seiloff said. “I’m happy with it. Definitely our goal was a little more, but that was OK.”

The Lady Wolves look at State as celebration. Seiloff said it’s about celebrating all the hard work and dedication they put into the season to make it to State.

The team practices before and after school for months.

“Hopefully, they’ll have their best meet of the year,” Seiloff said.

To get ready for State, the team is working last-minute details and preparing both physically and mentally for the competition ahead. Seiloff said she can’t wait to see the Lady Wolves have fun.
