Christine "Chris" Frances Smith, 66, a Green River resident for more than 39 years, passed away Oct. 8, 2019, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County in Rock Springs after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 24, 1952, in Martinez, Calif., the daughter of Harold Eugene Macy and Iola Christina Hohl Macy. She attended schools in Lafayette, Calif., and graduated from Acalanes High School with the class of 1971. She also attended Western Wyoming Community College where she received her associate's degree.
Christine married Paul G. Walgren July 8, 1973, in Reno, Nev., and they had three children. Their marriage was solemnized in the Jordan River Temple in 1983 and they later divorced.
Christine married Perry L. Smith March 12, 1994, in Green River. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Sweetwater Quilting Guild.
She was a recipient of a kidney transplant from the University of Utah Kidney Donor program. She encourages everyone to sign up to be an organ donor. She had great appreciation for the donor who gave her extended life.
Survivors include her husband, Perry L. Smith, son, Clifford E. Walgren (Jamie), daughters, Amy J. Walgren Carter, Vanessa L. Beckermann (Brian), Erica D. Smith Kleeman, and Mindy R. Smith, all of Green River; Jayme B. Esgar (Joe) of N. Las Vegas, and Lexie D. Salas (Eric) of Albuquerque, N.M., sisters, Mariann Burgess of Yerington, Nev., and Carol Ansley of Woodland, Calif., 25 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and another on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Iola Macy, and grandson James D. Byrd.
Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 5th and 7th Ward Building, 1255 W. Teton Blvd, Green River, Wyo.
A viewing will take place 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, and Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will take place in the Riverview Cemetery in Green River. The family request that donations be made to the University of Utah Transplant Buddy Fund in lieu of flowers.
