Detention center inmate dies

The Sweetwater County Detention Center inmate who died at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County after deputies discovered him unresponsive and experiencing an apparent medical emergency in his cell.

According to the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office press release, at about 2 a.m. Sunday Zachary Colton Griffiths, 28, Green River, died. Deputies discovered Griffiths unresponsive in his cell during a routine cell check and immediately began to render life-saving measures until emergency medical services arrived.

Ultimately, the inmate was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County, where he was pronounced deceased. According to the Sweetwater County Detention Center inmate roster, Griffiths was arrested five times since 2017. His most recent arrest took place Oct. 12, on an arrest-and-hold order for an alleged probation and parole violation. The inmate was arrested and booked into the detention center at around 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. The cause of Griffiths’ death remains under investigation by the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation. No further details were released by the sheriff’s office.
