Gymnasts learn new routines

Flipping, jumping and landing correctly are all things children at the Green River gymnastics program were learning.

Green River Recreation Center employees were teaching children of various ages and skill levels how to complete gymnastics moves Monday afternoon. From simple tumbling and cartwheels, to backflips and front flips, students were excited to learn and patient with one another.

While some students worked on their tumbling, others learned how to maintain one's balance on the high beam, some worked on the low beam and others took their turns at the trampoline.

Regardless of which station the child was at, they had fun and listened as employees gave them, and in some cases, showed them how to complete a move. Over and over again, employees praised the students with high fives and words of encouragement.

For the younger and less experienced participants, the employees would gently guide the children through a tumbling move. At first, the children looked a little apprehensive, but then they saw how it was done and focused on completing the task.

Members of the Martin family were all in the same group learning move after move. Once one would complete the move, they would quickly move to the back of the line for another turn.

Over in the tumbling area, participants Natalie Tynsky and Mikayla Dockter were busy completing back flips with the help of employee Jennifer Rocha. She made sure to spot their every move so they could complete them successfully.

At the high beam, JodiRae Orton was busy helping Jayce Holman learn how to place his hands on the high beam from a standing position. She would slowly take him up and down so he could get used to the movement.

As he completed the motion he became a little bit quicker each time. When he was done learning the motion, he successfully jumped off the end of the high beam. Each participant had a chance to try the stations before having time for open tumbling at the end of the program.
