Rodeo returns to Green River

If you have driven past the rodeo grounds and horse corrals lately then you have probably noticed the new buck and rail fence and ranch gates. This project has been in the making for a while behind the scenes. The timing is perfect. To spite the uncooperative weather last month, the project completed just in time for the Overland Stage Stampede Rodeo’s 32nd year.

The rodeo is an important part of our community. While it may not be the highlight of the summer for every resident, it is certainly a hallmark of the spirit of Wyoming. There’s a rich rodeo history in Wyoming. After all, we are the Cowboy State and have a bucking horse on our license plate.

An event that continues and grows over the years as the Overland Stage Stampede Rodeo has, especially one that is primarily volunteer-run and supported by local sponsors, must have something to it.

Which brings me back to the new decorative fence and ranch gates. The City worked with a Wyoming craftsman to enhance the look of this part of town while keeping the costs very low. Just as the mural we added last year brings color and art to our Main Street, the buck and rail fence and ranch gates enhance the sense of place and purpose of this stretch of East Teton.

Celebrating the spirit and culture of our town is important. Little touches like this build pride in our community and events, contribute to the beauty of our town, and enhances the quality of life. It's also an important piece of a larger puzzle of economic development. As we continue to cultivate a sense of pride in our City, we can keep a connection to our past and the sport that helped shape Wyoming.
