Quilts of all sizes and themes will once again be on display at the Quilting on the Green show.
On Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the quilt show will take place at Expedition Island, while on Saturday the show take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Prior to the quilts being displayed, they are registered and judged. Quilting on the Green co-chair Debbie Braithwaite said she is hoping there are a lot of great entries again this year, but one never knows how many will be submitted until days before the event.
Braithwaite said the quilts are always judged by an expert from outside the area to determine which ribbons and cash prizes will be awarded.
However, those who attend the quilt show will have the opportunity to decide which quilt is worthy to receive the viewer’s choice award, while Green River Mayor Pete Rust will have a tough job deciding which quilt will receive the mayor’s choice award.
Those who want to learn from an expert quilter on the various techniques used to make quilts will want to make sure to purchase a ticket for the trunk show. Braithwaite said Marci Baker of Fort Collins, Colo., is scheduled to lead the trunk show, which is set to take place Friday at 7 p.m. at the pavilion. During the trunk show, participants will have a chance to see some of the quilts Baker has made and listen to her describe the techniques she used to make them. Those who attend the event will be treated to desserts. Tickets for this event, which are $10 per person, can be purchased in advance by calling Susie Hermansen at 307-870-6587.
As for the quilt show itself, about eight venders will have items available for purchase and about half of those will conduct product demonstrations. Braithwaite said there are even more venders this year, than in years past.
This year, three quilts will be raffled off. Braithwaite said two are donated by local quilters and the third is the State Opportunity Quilt. The drawing for the local quilts will take place at the end of the show, while the state quilt will travel around the state collecting raffle tickets at various events and the drawing will take place sometime in July.
Braithwaite said about 200 attend this annual event and they are hoping to have more from out of town and out of state attend.
Tickets for the quilt show are $2 per person, children who are five and under get in free.
Along with the quilt show, classes are being taught at Expedition Academy.
Braithwaite said five instructors are scheduled to teach the classes, but registration for this event has already closed.
