Water board receives DEQ notice

The Joint Powers Water Board received a Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality notice last week, regarding findings during an onsite inspection that occurred in April. However, the notice does not involve the quality of drinking water from the water treatment facility.

At the time of the JPWB’s meeting, staff at the facility hadn’t had a chance to review the findings, though JPWB Chairman John Eddins said the findings were items the board was aware of and working to correct.

“We got hit with this yesterday,” he said during their Thursday meeting.

Brian Seppie, general manager of the JPWB, said the notice regarded finding the inspection made at discharge points from the facility.

One issue resulted from damage caused by the ice and snow allowing water from a pond to escape. The damage was repaired after the ice cleared up. Other issues involve the quality of discharge water from the facility and minor issues with the nearby drainage ditches.

“We’re trying to work through those issues,” Seppie said.

A full presentation regarding the notice will be made during the board’s June 13 meeting. That meeting takes place at the JPWB’s facility in Green River.
