Six members of the Green River Wolves Track team achieved their personal bests at State.
Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, track teams traveled to Kelly Walsh High School in Casper to compete in the 2019 State Outdoor Track Championships. Green River qualified a team of five boys and five girls.
In the girls 3,200-meter run, senior Kaisa Arnell improved on her previous best time by almost three seconds in finishing 15th in the field of 21 State qualifiers. Marcos Valerio, also a senior, took 11th for the boys in the 3,220-meter run in 10:07.64 with sophomore Greg Sherwin finishing 19th cutting his previous best by almost eight seconds to finish with a time of 10:49.66.
In the 100-meter hurdles for the ladies, junior Mariyah Brady took 11th just a few hundredths of a second of her personal best in a time of 16.58. For the boys, freshman Hayden Roberts was also just a few hundredths of a second off his personal best taking 13th in 17.49.
Valerio who ran in three events at State had his top finish in the 800-meter run finishing in the top eight taking seventh just one second of his personal best in 2:03.23 followed closely by junior, Drew Gibson, who was just two seconds of his season’s best taking 11th in 2:04.93.
In the 300-meter hurdles, freshman Lillian Munoz took 15th in her first State meet just one and one-half seconds off of her personal best in 50.18. For the boys, Hayden Roberts, also a freshman, finished 14th just one second off of his personal best in the boys 300-meter hurdles in 44.26.
In the girls high jump, senior Erika Wilson was the top finisher in the State meet for Green River, taking fourth at 5-2, while another freshman, Faith Bartashnick, improved on her personal best in the shot put by almost a foot, taking 14th with a throw of 33-1 1/4.
Mariyah Brady also beat her personal best in the 100-meter dash as she took 15th in 13.07. Marcos Valerio, in his third event at State, took 15th in the 1600-meter run in 4:39.13, while Drew Gibson in his second event took 18th, improving his personal best in the event by almost four seconds in 4:48.38.
For the boys, senior Alex Marius scored a team point for the Wolves by finishing in the top eight in eighth place improving on his personal best in the triple jump by just over two feet with a leap of 42.02.75.
Track coach Dan Hansen felt that they had some good performances at State and said they will have six kids back next year with this State experience.
