Girls' season ends at Regional tournament

It was a battle to see which team would advance to state, and the Lady Wolves soccer team came up short.

“They tried,” head coach Tracy Wyant said. “It was a tough, emotional loss.”

On Thursday, the Lady Wolves soccer team went up against Jackson and despite playing hard they came up short, 3-2. With the game being a must-win situation, the loss ended the Lady Wolves’ season and they were a little heartbroken over it.

“It didn’t go our way,” Wyant said. “It wasn’t for lack of effort.”

The Lady Wolves had the lead up until the last five minutes of the game. During the last five minutes, the Lady Wolves lost possession of the ball around midfield. A Jackson player got a break away and took it down to the goal. The Lady Wolf goalie got the ball and had her hands on it as she was in the process of tucking it in, the Jackson player fell over the top of her.

It was the Lady Wolf who got the foul called against her for dangerous play and Jackson received a penalty kick as a result.

The penalty kick was good and with its success, it tied up the game 2-2, and the Lady Wolves were deflated.

“I didn’t see it the way the ref saw it,” Wyant said.

She said whether the call was right or wrong it didn’t matter, the damage it did to the Lady Wolves was done. The Lady Wolves felt defeated and Jackson took advantage of it. Wyant said Jackson went down and scored another goal with about three minutes left in the game, putting them in the lead.

Wyant believes if the game would have gone into overtime, the Lady Wolves would have rallied back, but it didn’t work out that way.
