New cheerleading coach chosen for GRHS

A new coach has been selected to head up Green River High School's cheerleading program.

According to Tony Beardsley, Sweetwater County School District No. 2's Athletics Director, Allison Meredith was offered the head coaching job for the high school's cheer team. Meredith was the team's assistant coach prior to moving into the new role. Meredith's placement still needs approval from the district school board. Once the approval is made, she will replace Amber Seppala for the 2019-2020 school year.

Meredith was formerly a member of the Wolves cheerleading team in high school, serving as the team captain during championship years.

"I have always wanted to coach," Meredith said.

The decision to apply came after watching the cheer team perform during a football game. Meredith said she wanted to coach the group after watching their performance.

Beardsley said Meredith has put in "considerable time" as the assistant coach during the past year. The team has gone through a number of head coaches in the past couple years and Meredith said she plans to bring stability to the team as one of her immediate goals. She also wants to return the team to its championship-winning ways.

"Coach Meredith has already put a plan in place for the cheerleading program moving forward." Beardsley said in a media release. "I look forward to assisting Allison in her effort to sustain and continue to grow our outstanding tradition in competitive cheerleading."

Meredith is excited for the new role and looks forward to working with the team in the coming year.

"I'm super excited for the opportunity to coach ... and help (students) develop into young men and women," she said.

Meredith is employed at Peak Performance Physical Therapy.
