Good food, good health, good life: You’ll be “Good to Go” after the 2019 Health & Wellness Fair.
Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County is hosting the annual fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 9, at the hospital. It’s a free, family event. There will be door prizes and giveaways, including a drawing for two mountain bikes, one for an adult and one for a child.
“This year’s event is bigger than ever,” said Janae Gale, MHSC Director of Volunteer Services and Community Outreach. “We’ve targeted a variety of the hospital services and have partnered with health and wellness organizations and businesses to help you on your journey. Plan on spending the morning with us, and you’ll be ‘Good to Go.’”
Here are a just a few of the booths, activities and demonstrations you’ll find:
Blood draw results: Those who participated in the blood draws earlier this month can pick up results and speak with a provider about what the numbers mean.
Colorectal health: Thanks to Wyoming Cancer Resource Services, you’ll enter the lobby by traveling through a 10-foot tall, 12-foot long colon. Region V WCRS Director Kelly Sugihara will be on hand to offer education and provide information on the free resources to those in the community who qualify.
Specialty Clinics of Sweetwater Memorial: Sweetwater Memorial general surgeons Dr. Brianne Crofts and Dr. Augusto Jamias will be on hand to talk about colorectal health. Providers with the obstetrics department will be available to answer questions. ENT Dr. David Liu will have information on hearing safety.
Sweetwater Regional Cancer Center: The cancer center team will be on hand to answer questions about the full-service center and its new Wellness Wagon program. Tours of the radiology oncology and hematology/oncology clinics will be provided.
Hospital services: Physical therapy and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation pros will be available, along with staff from the hospital’s lab, medical imaging and cardiopulmonary departments
Blender bikes: Josie Ibarra and Shauna Erramouspe, MHSC registered dietitians, will have the blender bikes out. Take a spin to see how much pedal power it takes to make a smoothie.
Healthy bites: Nutrition services will have some tasty and healthy treats to share with visitors. Dietitians will be available to answer questions about healthy eating and the variety of services offered.
Health assessments: Western Wyoming Community College nursing students will offer blood pressure assessments, as well as education on chronic back problems, chronic pain, hypothyroidism and the stressful role of caregiver.
Community providers: Some of the community health care and wellness providers that will be available include Skin Dynamics, Mirror Mirror Ageless Beauty, Inside Connections Pregnancy Resource Center, Sweetwater Chiropractics, Deer Trail Assisted Living, Cowboy Cares Home Health, Soul Studio, Bellkins Paps, Wyoming Relay for the hearing impaired, Young at Heart In-Home Services, Children’s Dental of Rock Springs, Natural Health, Rock Springs Periodontics, Wild Sage Food Cooperative, Sweetwater County Emergency Management, Equilibrium Fitness Studio, Soul Growth, and The Bike and Trike.
AirMed: University of Utah Health’s helicopter will be in the front parking lot.
Community Health Needs Assessment: If you haven’t had a chance to fill out the quick survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QV3GSPX, you can do it during the fair. The survey questions will help the hospital identify potential community programs, services and initiatives. The information will be used to collaborate with community partners on ways to improve Sweetwater County’s overall health.
Wellness talks/demonstrations: Sweetwater Memorial will offer a variety of health and wellness demonstrations, including:
• 9:30 a.m .: A Healthy Diet: Josie Ibarra and Shauna Erramouspe, MHSC registered dietitians, will offer tips to maintain a healthy way of eating and will talk about the community services they offer.
• 10 a.m .: CrossFit: Cooper Palmer with Iron Cowboy CrossFit will offer a one-hour workshop on CrossFit. Wear appropriate clothing.
• 11 a.m .: Wild Sage Market, a grassroots co-op grocery store in Green River, will talk about the holistically-focused grocery store and its aim to provide the community access to a variety of local, regional, sustainable and organic products.
• 11:30 a.m .: Belly Dancing: Tracie Soller will introduce belly dancing as a fitness option. Come prepared to move.
