Grapplers earn 2nd at Regionals in RS

4 champions crowned

The Wolves took to the mat in Rock Springs during the 4A West Regional Tournament last weekend. Despite taking second behind Kelly Walsh, a number of Green River wrestlers took first place in their weight divisions. Overall, Green River earned 226.5 points for their second-place finish, falling behind Kelly Walsh’s 266 and head of third-place Rock Springs’ total of 215.

Four Wolves wrestlers were crowned the regional champions of their respective weight divisions during the event. Clayson Mele took first at 106 pounds, while Dominic Martinez earned a first-place finish at 113 pounds, Kade Flores took first at 120 pounds and Payton Tucker finished first at 182 pounds.

Other Wolves wrestlers also fared well at the competition. Jon Ty Leininger placed second at 160 pounds, while Kaden Lloyd also took second at 170 pounds. Justin Flores took third at 138 pounds, Garrett Harris took third at 145 pounds and Tanner Adam took third at 152 pounds. Nathan Campos took fourth at 113 pounds, Kade Knezovich placed fourth at 126 pounds and Sage Wilde placed fourth at 220 pounds.

The Wolves’ season is almost over, with the state tournament the last competition the wrestlers will participate in this year. State takes place in Casper Friday and Saturday.
