Jim D. McCartney, 90, of Austin, Texas since 2007, passed away Jan. 1, 2019. He was born in Talpa, Texas Aug. 11, 1928, the sixth of seven children born to Joe and Beulah McCartney.

He was married to Jerline (Buxkemper) Sept. 7, 1948, in Rowena, Texas, and they had 64-plus years together. She preceded him in death in 2012.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Debra of Austin, Texas; son, G.W. of San Antonio, Texas; grandson Shane J. McCartney and his wife, Rebecca; great-grandchildren Michele and Colton, all of Tilden, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Rebecca McCartney expressed the family's feelings and sentiments in a message sent to family and friends on Facebook, which the family would like to repeat it here:

"January 1, 2019 we said goodbye to the pillar of the McCartney clan. Jim lived a life full of adventures in his 90 years. He was the best storyteller, master electrician, sheep and goat rancher, 42 (card) partner and babysitter we could have asked for! He taught us many life lessons some that we liked and others that we have grown to appreciate with wisdom. RIP Granddad. We will miss you."

Graveside service took place Jan. 6, 2019, at Eden Cemetery in Eden, Texas.

Arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home South Congress of Austin, Texas.
