Celebrating a spooktacular Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner. It’s a day filled with lots of activities here in Green River, school costume parades, costume contests, and of course trick or treating. This year school kids have an early dismissal at 1 p.m.

The Green River Police Department, along with many businesses along Flaming Gorge Way, will be participating in the fun. We look forward to seeing children strolling along, collecting candy, and showing off their costumes. Make sure you stop in to the GRPD lobby for a treat.

Halloween tradition includes kids out walking, knocking on doors, and eating candy. City streets will be flooded with kids and parents alike dressed in their scariest or best costumes.

If you are participating, or just traveling in the area, please use caution and look out for those young monsters.

Keep your eye out for our patrol vehicles with lighted pumpkins on top.

Officers will be out patrolling the city on All Hallows Eve. If you see an officer with a pumpkin on their car, chances are they will have candy.

The Green River Police Department wants everyone to be safe while having fun. Here are some Halloween Safety Tips:

* Don’t eat any candy until you get home. Unwrapped or open candy should be discarded. Parents please urge children to wait until an adult has checked their spoils before digging in.

* Wear something reflective on your costumes. Flashing glow sticks can be a fun and safe way to be visible after dark.

* Prepare for cold weather. Layers are a good idea, you never know with our crazy Wyoming weather if it will be warm and sunny or blowing and snowing on Halloween.

* Don’t go into a house unless you have parent’s permission. Setting up a game plan of what route your kids are taking and have check points is always a good idea.

* The Buddy System - have a fellow trick or treater to walk with.

* If a porch light is off, that usually means do not disturb. Please be courteous to those that do not want to participate in the festivities. They may be sleeping or simply can’t come to the door.

* Be courteous to your fellow trick or treaters.

* Make sure costumes are not trip hazards and masks are easy to see out of. For the really little ones, also check for choking hazards.

* Stay aware of your surroundings. There will be more pedestrians than typical, and likely more cars on the roads as people are out and about enjoying the festivities.

Let’s all have a spooktacular safe Halloween.
