Green River High School’s golf team saw improvement during its season, with many of its golfers playing in the 90-95 range, according to assistant coach Mike Baker.
“Last year, it was hard to break 110,” he said.
The boy’s team finished 10th place at state this year, while the girls were unable to have enough players to field a team. The team also won their won home invitational, lead by Kaleb Saccamano’s 85-79 performance during the competition. Saccamano, as well as Drew Gibson, Trevor Moser and Connar Wilkins, medaled at the competition.
Baker said both the girls and boys have worked extremely hard during the season and credits the team’s improvement to head coach Karly Eyre’s work with the students.
While the golf season is short, Baker said the coaching staff has considered taking trips to Utah, where the golf season is a little longer, to give players more time to compete. The golf season takes place during the spring and fall months.
Baker said Regionals take place at the end of the spring competition in May, while State takes place in September.
Baker said the season is split to allow competitors to hone their skills over the summer months.
