The high school tennis season is in its final week, with teams across Wyoming preparing for the state tournament in Gillette.
Many of Green River High School’s doubles teams will have good seeding as they prepare for the tournament this weekend.
The boys took fourth at the regional tournament, aided by team of Jordan Anderson and Brett McKeehan, who brought home the regional championship in Doubles No. 3. Jon Leininger and Elliott Potter took second in Doubles No. 2, while Jarrett Atkins and Connor Friel placed third in Doubles No. 1.
The girls took second place at Regionals, with the teams of Kaitlynn Sharp and Sydney Beutel in Doubles No. 2 and Gabrielle Heiser and Megan Counts in Doubles No. 3 securing second-place finishes in their divisions. Audrie Harrison and Kelby Pope placed fourth in Doubles No. 1.
While the doubles teams fared well at the tournament, GRHS’s singles competitors weren’t as fortunate. For both girls and boys, competitors in singles competition did not advance past the opening round, each winning a single match in the consolation bracket before being eliminated from the tournament.
“We are pleased as a coaching staff with our team,” head coach Phil Harder said.
Harder said the girls’ finish was fantastic and said the doubles teams on both sides played well.
“We’ll work on singles and doubles strategy more and fine-tune our play so we are ready to compete,” Harder said.
