“We don’t have a lot of kids, but we have a lot of good kids,” Green River High School’s head cross country coach Craig Leavitt said about his team.
Leavitt said he’s working on building the team this year and is specifically trying to recruit girls for the team. Leavitt said he has four girls on the team, but needs one more for GRHS to earn points during their cross country meets. GRHS girls can compete, but the team will be disqualified from scoring during girls’ runs if they are unable to field five runners. The team was forced to accept the DQ during the Green River Invite Friday, fielding only one runner for the girls’ team.
Leavitt said the team is comprised mostly of first and second-year runners, which Leavitt plans to build into a competitive team. However, the team has leadership in three seniors: Tanner Adam, Marcos Valerio and Kaisa Arnell.
Both Valerio and Adam served as the team’s anchors during their first meet in Green River Friday, placing first and third respectively in the event.
