The Green River High School football team’s season officially begins Friday with a home game against the Lander Valley Tigers.
The game takes place at 7 p.m., at Wolves Stadium.
The Wolves are looking to continue the strong seasons they’ve had in previous years. Last year, the Wolves fought their way into the 3A playoffs, ultimately losing to Torrington in a heartbreaking 17-13 semifinal game.
The Wolves will be lead by a new head coach this year. Marty Wrage, who comes to Green River after a successful four years as head coach of the Greybull Buffaloes, takes over for Don Maggi after Maggi resigned as head coach last year. Wrage also served a head coach for the Wyoming Shrine Bowl earlier this year.
For Wrage, he sees his team’s willingness to work hard as one of the Wolves biggest strengths this year. With 16 seniors on the team, the Wolves have experience coming into the season. However, the seniors aren’t the only leaders on the field.
“We have leaders in each grade and players working on finding their roles,” Wrage said.
