Our View: Election is too important to miss

Next week’s primary election will be an important one for Green River, Sweetwater County and Wyoming.

Republicans will have to chose their preferred candidates in a number of races which will set the tone for the general election in November. In the U.S. House, Senate and Sweetwater County commissioner races, they will decide if they’re happy with things as they are with the incumbent candidates or if it’s time to go a new direction. They’ll decide which gubernatorial candidate best represents their interests and ideals in the governor’s office and the state auditor’s office. They will also decide who will be the next Wyoming State Treasurer. Green River residents in Ward I will also determine which two candidates will move on in a three-way race between Terry Leigh, Jim Zimmerman and Sherry Bushman.

It will be an important election.

We encourage residents to show up to the polls and cast their votes. We also encourage residents to make use of absentee ballots if they’re unable to vote Tuesday. Additionally, we encourage residents to read up on the candidates and make informed decisions prior to voting, ignoring catchy slogans that say noting about a candidate’s qualifications.

The next four years will determine the outcome of the state’s education funding issues and the next governor will likely play a role in that decision. Likewise, local projects like the city’s wastewater treatment center will end up requiring decisions from local officials.

Qualified candidates are needed to guide our local and state governments to make the right decisions.

It’s time to make Green River’s voices heard. Vote on Tuesday.
