Garrett Wayne-Jess Paine

Garrett Wayne-Jess Paine, 16, resident of Williston, N.D., passed away July 21, 2018 following an accident.

Garrett was born Oct. 2, 2001 in Rock Springs. He lived in Green River for his first year before moving to Casper, where he went to preschool through first grade. In Casper, he discovered his love for taekwondo, hunting, shooting, fishing, and all things outdoors. He moved to Williston, N.D. in 2009 with his family and continued to pursue his passions while trying new activities. Through all of this he was always just a country boy at heart.

He was involved in taekwondo, judo, the high school trap shooting club, band, and especially Boy Scouts. He played football, basketball, baseball, and golf.

He loved spending time with his family and friends. His summers were spent at the lake and on the water, on his skis or with a fishing pole in hand. He enjoyed working on his trucks. He worked in landscaping for three summers.

In Boy Scouts, he earned his Arrow of Light and attained Life Scout rank. He served as senior patrol leader of Troop 368. He was a brotherhood member in the Order of the Arrow, and he attended National Youth Leadership Training. All that remained for Garrett to earn was his Eagle rank by completing his Eagle project. Boy Scout Troop 368 is going to complete the project in his honor, to help him achieve Eagle Scout rank. He was always an Eagle Scout in his heart.

Garrett had such a kind heart, and always provided a helping hand. You had a friend wherever he went. He always had a joke to make you laugh! He was always up for a good time, and died the way he lived.

As a Life-Source organ donor, he was able to complete his final good turn as a Boy Scout; helping approximately 17-20 people have a better life. He would be very pleased with this.

Garrett was preceded in death by grandmother Patricia Paine, grandmother Doris Paine, and cousin Noah Eitel. He has also been preceded by many great-grandparents and extended family members.

Garrett is survived by mother and father, Jessica and Adam Paine; sister Felicia Paine (Brett Flesness), and sister Maci Paine. Grandparents include Dottie and Richard Nobles of Green River; grandparents Larry and Judy Paine of Green River; grandparents Mike and Darla Garvin of Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, along with many special friends that he considered his family.
