Chancey Williams concludes Saturday evening FGD events

Performing in front of a Wyoming crowd always feels special for Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band.

While the group has a number of Wyoming towns listed on their summer tour, including performances in South Pass City and Sinclair, Chancey Williams said his band has started performing outside Wyoming much more frequently. With a tour taking him throughout the western states, Williams always looks forward to a chance to play in Wyoming. The Moorcroft native credits his band’s success to the following they’ve developed in the Cowboy State.

“We’re fortunate for our success,” Williams said about the band’s following in Wyoming. “It’s nice to stop in these people’s home towns.”

The group headlines Flaming Gorge Days with a Saturday evening performance on Expedition Island starting at 6 p.m. When the group steps on stage, it will be their fourth performance in Green River.

Having been named the Rocky Mountain CMA Entertainer of the Year and their fourth album, 2017’s “Rodeo Cold Beer” named the Rocky Mountain CMA’s Album of the Year, No. 1 on the Billboard Mountain Heatseekers Chart and No. 7 on the iTunes Country Albums Chart, Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers Band are making a name for themselves in country music.

Williams described their sound as a rock and country mixture similar to country music from the 1980s and 1990s. Williams cited performers like George Strait, Dwight Woakam and Gary Allen as major influencers on the band, but said they listen to newer performers like Cody Johnson as well.

At Flaming Gorge Days, fans can expect to hear several songs from “Rodeo Cold Beer,” as well as favorites from the band’s previous albums. For Williams, his favorite songs they plan to perform from the new album include “Rodeo Cold Beer” and “Tin Roof.” For “Rodeo Cold Beer,” Williams describes it as an “up and down traveling song” with a lot of Wyoming influences and influences from his time on the rodeo circuit, while he describes “Tin Roof” as a “good cowboy song. The themes of being a cowboy and the rodeo are very familiar to Williams. He grew up on a ranch and was once a saddle bronc rider who is one of two performers to have both competed at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo and performed on its main stage.

“We’re excited to be back in town,” Williams said.

Tickets to Flaming Gorge Days’ Saturday events cost $15 and are available for purchase at either the Rock Springs or Green River Chambers of Commerce or at the event.
