A 39-year resident of Green River is seeking election to the Green River City Council in Ward I.
Terry Leigh announced his campaign Tuesday in a news release. Leigh, who admits to have not served in an elected capacity, has volunteered for a number of boards and commissions for Green River, Sweetwater County and Wyoming. Currently, he is the chairman of the Sweetwater County Planning and Zoning Commission, a Green River representative to the Joint Powers Water Board and is a past chairman of the Wyoming Geological Survey Board.
Leigh said he's seen Green River in times of economic downturn and prosperity. While the past few years have been difficult for the city, Leigh said sales tax is making a turn for the better and believes the council should focus on four areas he said are his top priorities.
His first priority is fiscal responsibility. Leigh said the council should develop and implement short term and long term capital improvement plans to guide future projects and programs in a responsible manner to benefit all stakeholders.
"Success will rely on communication between staff within each functional department, the city administrator, the governing body and of course, the citizens," Leigh said in his announcement.
Leigh's second priority is to support the city's employees, which he views as the city's number one resource.
Third, Leigh wants to support economic development. He would like the city to evaluate the duplicated, ineffective economic struggles taking place in the region and create a coordinated and efficient effort which first supports and helps retain existing businesses.
His last priority is to foster intergovernmental cooperation by improving communication and coordination between local, state and federal entities to foster better governmental efficiency.
"I look forward to opportunity to represent Ward I and the residents of Green River," Leigh said.
