A relative newcomer to Green River seeks the Ward 1 seat on the Green River City Council.
Sherry Bushman announced her intent to run for election on a Facebook page she created, Friends of Sherry Bushman, Green River Ward 1. According to an announcement posted on the page, Bushman wants to serve the city by applying her leadership skills and education. She believes fiscal responsibility and ethical decision making will secure the city's economic vitality and wants to foster partnerships amongst community organizations.
"I am proud of being part of a community that genuinely cares for one another," she said in her campaign announcement. "I want to ensure the quality of life continues for our next generation."
Bushman's husband moved to Green River in 2016 after ExxonMobil closed their Santa Barbara, Calif., plant and transferred to Wyoming. She moved to the area six months later when her department was relocated to Atlanta. After moving to Green River, Bushman was hired at Western Wyoming Beverages in Rock Springs, working in accounts receivable and accounts payable.
"We are proud to say that Green River is our home," she said in her announcement.
She also has volunteered for a number of community organizations, including serving as vice chair of the Green River URA/Main Street Agency and previously served the organization as its treasurer. She's also served the American Legion Auxiliary for Tom Whitmore Post 28, currently serving as the second vice president of the auxiliary. She also volunteers for Post 28's Brenda's Closet and previously served the auxiliary as its treasurer.
Bushman has two degrees from the University of Phoenix, a bachelor of science degree in business administration and a master's degree in business administration.
