The Green River High School track team split up last week as eight competitors traveled north to the Casper Classic, while a number of the remaining members competed at the Mountain Man Invitational in Pinedale.
The Classic is a meet in which athletes need to prequalify by having one of the 10 best marks in their event for all events except the sprints and hurdles,. With sprints and hurdles, it is only the top eight that qualify regardless of the school’s division.
Green River’s girls had three qualify amongst the best in the state as Mariyah Brady improved her prequalifying mark by almost a half a second, finishing seventh in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.47.
The other two Lady Wolves who qualified were both coming off injuries. Natasha Young finished sixth in the field of 10 coming in the discus with a throw of 111’.03,” while Erika Wilson equaled her seeded height, clearing 5’2” in the high jump for second place.
For the boys, Kyle Cacho qualified in two events, the 400-meter run and the long jump. Kyle finished eighth in the 400 meters almost half a second slower than his best time this year in 52.07 and took eighth. In the long jump, Cacho finished almost 1 foot off his best this year with a jump of 20’.06.50.”
