Music fest coming to GR

Residents seeking something to do this summer have a new festival to enjoy in July.

The Muley Fanatic Foundation, a conservation group based in Green River, will host its inaugural Mansface Mountain Music Festival at Expedition Island July 13 and 14. The festival, focusing on bluegrass music, is something the foundation hopes to grow into an annual event, according to Chris Steffen, director of operations for the foundation.

Speaking to the Green River City Council last week, Steffen said the festival will feature local and regional performers, as well as nationally-known bluegrass musicians. The festival will also be an opportunity for the Muley Fanataic Foundation to educate visitors about the work they’re doing with the University of Wyoming, as well as promote the state’s new conservation license place, which was approved by the legislature during its session earlier this year.

Steffen said the festival should be an economic driver for Green River and they are working to promote local opportunities for camping and lodging, as well as the restaurants available in Sweetwater County.

“We hope to put this on the map,” Steffen told the Council. “I want to make sure we have a good family-friendly event.”
