New football coach hired

Green River High School’s football program recruited a head coach with nearly 30 years of experience under his belt.

Athletics director Tony Beardsley announced the district selected Marty Wrage to be the next head football coach for the Wolves.

Wrage’s contract was approved by the Sweetwater County School District No. 2 board last week. Wrage will be a physical education teacher at GRHS.

“I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of such a great football program and an outstanding school system,” Wrage said in a media release. “I was drawn to this position due to the strong academics and athletics at GRHS and in Sweetwater County School District No. 2.”

Wrage has been the head coach for Greybull High School’s football team for the last four years, having been the health and physical education teacher at Big Horn County School District No. 3 since 2007.

During that time, he achieved an overall 27-12 record for the Buffalos, helping bring his team to the 2A football playoffs all four years he coached the team. The team also made two appearances at the 2A state championship game. He will also be the head football coach at the Wyoming Shrine Bowl this summer.

Prior to working in Greybull, Wrage worked as a weight training and PE teacher at Ogallala High School in Nebraska from 1995 to 2007, serving as the head football, basketball and golf coach during that time.

He also worked at Chadron State College and for the Chadron public school system in Nebraska from 1989 to 1995, working as a middle school and high school basketball coach for the public schools and as the quarterback and receivers coach and offensive strength coach for Chadron State College.

“Marty has done an outstanding job throughout his career and brings a tremendous amount of experience and success as a football coach and teacher to our school district,” Beardsley said in a media release.

Wrage will be the 27th head football coach the Wolves have had throughout its history. He replaces Don Maggi, who resigned from the head coaching post Dec. 19, 2017, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
