Weather resulted in the Wolves outdoor track team canceling their first scheduled meet in Kearns, Utah.
In order to avoid a second cancellation, the Pete Olsen Memorial Track Meet in Big Piney was rescheduled from March 23 to March 21 to avoid a forecasted snow storm.
Seven area teams participated in the local meet, including the host Big Piney, Pinedale, Mountain View, Jackson, Farson-Eden, Lyman and Green River. Both boys and girls teams finished in third place in the seven-team event. The top eight finishers in each event score team points.
Among the top performers for the Wolves for the boys were senior Nick Boldt, who took second in the shot put and a new personal record in the discus with a first-place throw of 133.00’. Finishing in the top eight, in eighth place for the boys in the discus was junior David Martinez with a throw of 117’.07”. Also in the throws for the Lady Wolves, senior Natasha Young, who took second place in both the discus with an 112.04.50 feet attempt and the shot put with a throw of 34.00.50 feet. Her teammate, sophomore Alaina Maiers, took seventh at 29’10”.
Other top performers included an excellent performance by freshman Marcos Molina, who took second place in the 100 meters in 11.66. In the 200-meter sprint, Cole White took forth in 24.38, while freshman Seth White took seventh in 24.66. Junior Marcos Valerio earned a first-place finish in the 1,600-meter run in 4:52.8 while senior Brayden Kovick took third in the 1,600 meters in 4:59.6.
Also on the boys team, sophomore Drew Gibson ran a good early-season time in the 800 meters, taking first with a time of 2:10.41. White finished in third place in the 400 meters in 54.78, with freshman James King also finishing in the top eight, taking sixth in 58.22.
Also making the top eight in their events were junior Erika Wilson in the high jump, who took second at 5.0’2” and second in the long jump at 15’.5”. She was followed by freshman Liberty Ferrell scoring points in with a sixth place performance in the long jump at 14’4”. Sophomore Mariyah Brady in seventh at 14’.3.50”.
In the girls 400-meter run, three Lady Wolves finished in the top eight. Junior Jarin Mandros took sixth at 1:24.72, followed by Samantha Hardin, also a junior, in seventh in 1:24.85, while freshman Kamille Fowler took eighth. In the 100-meter hurdles, Brady took fourth in 17.69, while in the 200-meter dash, Ferrell took third at 30.10, followed by junior Patience Bentley in eighth place at 32.06.
In the 800-meter race, team points were scored by junior Kaisa Arnell taking fifth place in 2:57.06 and junior Ashley Jensen in eighth place in 3:18.92. Sophomore Angie McKinnon finished in eighth place in the 1,600-meter run in 6:55.1.
