The Lady Wolves continued their conference losing streak this weekend with another two losses.
Despite adding two more to the loss column, head coach Rick Carroll felt the team was playing better than they have in previous games. The losses, one from Evanston, 59-51, and the other from Jackson in overtime, 50-44, take the Green River High School Lady Wolves to 0-7 in the conference.
During the Evanston game, Carroll saw improvement.
"I thought as a team we played pretty well," Carroll said. "Defensively, we did what we needed to do. I thought our defensive effort was pretty good."
Another area of improvement came in the lack of turnovers. Something the team has struggled with all season long.
"I'm proud about only having 12 turnovers," he said.
The Lady Wolves were performing well until toward the end of the forth quarter, he said.
They had a chance to put themselves into a position to win, but the Lady Red Devils hit a couple of three-point shots, while the Lady Wolves struggled at the free-throw line and that was the end of the game.
During the Jackson game, the game was close. The Lady Wolves struggled in the third quarter and once again missing the free throws is what might have changed the outcome of this game.
Carroll said they only hit 11 of 27 at the free-throw line and they could have had a much bigger lead if they had hit some.
However, as time ran out on the clock a Jackson player was able to get one shot off, tying the game and taking it into overtime.
During overtime, Jackson outscored the Lady Wolves seven to one. He said Jackson was also able to get more rebounds than Green River, which is something new to the Lady Wolves. Usually rebounding is one of their strengths.
This week, the Lady Wolves will work on ball security and their shooting for the Rock Springs game in Green River at 5:30 p.m. He said the team has improved on securing the ball, but it's still an area of concern.
Leading the team in the Evanston game, was Erika Wilson with 12 points, one rebound and one assist followed by Tayana Crowder with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Andri Dewey with eight points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and two steals.
Leading the team in the Evanston game, was Dewey with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals, followed by Crowder with 11 points, seven rebounds, one block and one steal and Wilson with 1o points, nine rebounds, one block and two steals.
