Following a weekend of success in Natrona County, the Wolves fell to opponents from Evanston and Jackson in two home games last week.
The Wolves came up short in overtime against the Red Devils 77-72 Friday night, and lost a close heartbreaker to Jackson 63-62.
Head coach Laurie Ivie said the team has dealt with illness in the past week and thinks the team came out “flat” against Evanston, though she was happy with the Wolves’ defense Friday night.
“It was a gritty game down the stretch,” Ivie said.”They just stepped out there with without the level of confidence.”
Against Jackson, Ivie said the team suffered from a similar problem the next day.
Throughout the game, the Wolves found themselves making up ground to the Jackson Broncs, maintaining a close game throughout the four quarters.
“It was definitely not our style of game,” Ivie said.
With a few seconds left to play, Green River found itself with a 61-59 deficit and Ivie called on senior Cameron Morris to intentionally draw a foul to stop the clock, giving Jackson an opportunity for two more points, but allowing the Wolves a six-second window to make a three-point shot. Jackson made the two free throws, sealing the game despite Morris’ successful three-point shot.
Green River will take on their rivals from Rock Springs Thursday evening at Green River High School.
It will be the second time the Wolves and Tigers face each other this season, with the Wolves seeking a second chance at a win. During their last meeting, Green River lost 81-65.
Ivie said her team looks forward to their second match-up against the Tigers.
“We’re excited for the opportunity to take another chance at them,” she said.
