On Friday, students in Emily Gomez' second-grade class waited patiently for their mystery guest to arrive.
While they were being read a book, the students would occasionally whisper to each other about who the mystery guest would be and when he or she would arrive.
After about a 10 minute wait, the children soon realized who the guests were when four female Green River High School students walked into their classroom at Washington Elementary School.
The students' next assignment was to try and figure out what group the students were affiliated with. After a few guesses, the high schoolers told the students they were members of the Wolf Pack Dance Team and their names were Emmalee Skinner, Katherine Skinner, Eilish Grant and Megan Cleary and they had come to read to them. They told the students another dance-team member, Sheridan Sherwin, would be arriving shortly.
Gomez' students proceeded to ask the dance-team members what one must do to become a high-school athlete. The dancers told the students they have practices at least five times a week that start 5:30 a.m. and end at 7 a.m. After practice, they go to school and after school they go to their jobs if they have any. At the end of their busy days, they still have homework to do.
The students also found out that in order to be on an athletic team at the high school one must have good grades. The dancers told the students not only must they get good grades, but they must have good behavior too. This means they must treat each other, their coaches and teachers with respect. A good way to show respect is by listening to teachers and following their directions.
With a few questions answered, the class was split up and then each dance-team member read three books to a smaller group of students.
