It was a rough Thursday night for the Green River Lady Wolves basketball team when they took on the Rock Springs Lady Tigers.
The Lady Wolves started off slow in the first quarter, falling behind right away. By the end of the first quarter, they were down by 16 points, 26-10.
Head coach Rick Carroll said the Lady Wolves worked hard in the second quarter to close the deficit and even outscored the Lady Tigers, 18-12. At halftime, they were down by 10.
Carroll said he really has to give the Lady Wolves credit for working hard and coming back in the second quarter. During the third and fourth quarters, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Wolves, taking the final score to 75-50.
At one point in the third quarter, the Lady Wolves cut the Lady Tigers lead and came within eight points of them, but then the Lady Tigers went on a run.
“We didn’t play well at the beginning and we didn’t play well at the end,” Carroll said.
He said it was just to much of a deficit for the Lady Wolves to overcome even though they worked hard to try and get back into it.
This weekend the Lady Wolves will travel to Casper to play Natrona County on Friday and Kelly Walsh on Saturday. To prepare for this game, the Lady Wolves will continue to watch film of the teams to see where their strengths and weaknesses are.
Carroll has already noticed by watching the films, that both teams are good at stripping the ball and they excel at it. Knowing this, the Lady Wolves are going to work on ball control this week and he hopes their positive attitudes will continue.
“We’re going to continue to work hard,” Carroll said.
Leading the Lady Wolves was Ashelyn Birch with 13 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and one steal, followed by Andri Dewey with 12 points, eight rebounds, 12 assists and six steals and Tayana Crowder with 10 points and three rebounds.
