"Pampurr yourself" purse and jewelry auction set for Saturday

The Red Desert Humane Society is hosting the “Pampurr” Yourself Purse and Jewelry Auction on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Holiday Inn ballroom.

This event will help to chase away the winter blahs. Residents will have the chance to bring home a new purse or piece jewelry

With more than 200 purses, one should be able to find something.

This event is also the perfect girls’ night out because it’s full of good food, fun, company and purses.

Tickets for the event are available at both the Green River and Rock Springs chambers of commerce and the Red Desert Humane Society.

General admission tickets are $25 or $250 to reserve a table of 10 for a group. The event has sold out in the past so those who wish to attend are encouraged to get tickets early.

Old Chicago Catering will provide a full buffet dinner and cash bar is available throughout the evening. The silent auction kicks off at 4:30 p.m. when the doors open and starts at 7 p.m.

There will be two auctions, a 50/50 raffle and the “pick of the litter.” The “pick of the litter” winner will be allowed to pull one item from the live auction before the auction starts.

This signature event is now in its eighth year and still going strong.

“We never realized how popular this even would become and how many people look forward to it every year,” humane society board president Melinda Baas said.

The event began with an idea a volunteer had about a fun event involving something nearly ever woman owns -- a purse.

“I always laugh when I think back,” Baas said. “when they first suggested the idea I commented, ‘who would come to a purse auction?’ and 90 people walked in the door.”

All proceeds from the event goes to support the animals at the humane society. The society had been a part of Sweetwater County for more than 30 years, providing a temporary place for animals to stay while searching for a permanent home.

More than 200 animals find new homes each year through the humane society.
