Carol Dawn Crouch, 83, passed away Jan. 12, 2018, at her residence in Denver after a lengthy illness.
Born July 18, 1934, in Lexington, Tenn., to Ray Otis Taylor and Jessie Mae Taylor. Carol was the oldest of seven children, four brothers and three sisters. She was raised by her grandmother, Ida Watson. To help her father provide for the family, she worked many jobs and graduated from Garden City Senior High School in 1952 and moved to Denver shortly after.
While living in Denver, she fell in love and married Leonard Crouch from Green River. They were married July 23, 1966, at the home of Hugh and Elizabeth Crouch and remained married until his death Jan. 24, 2011. Together they raised his four children, a son and three daughters whom she loved very much.
After moving to Green River, she took a job with Union Pacific Railroad, from where she retired after 20 years. She wore multiple hats, such as wife, mother, provider, and counselor. After the couple’s retirement they would take many trips to Nevada, California, Texas and Colorado to visit their children and other family members. Carol especially enjoyed Las Vegas. They both took pleasure in doing yard work and enjoying the company of their many friends and family. Carol loved a “pretty” yard and was always smiling when the hard work was done and it looked beautiful just like she wanted it.
Carol moved back to Denver after the death of Leonard.
Her survivors include children Dale Crouch of Moreno Valley Calif., Diane Wilson, Christine Merkerson and Elizabeth Scott, all of Texas; daughter in-law Angelia Crouch; son-in-law Ron Merkerson; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Ray Otis Taylor Jr., Paul David Taylor Sr., Jimmy Dewitt Taylor, James Ellsworth Taylor and Marie Inez Taylor Williams; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members.
Visitation took place Jan. 19 at the Pipkin Braswell Funeral Home in Denver and her celebration of life took place Jan. 20, at the House of Hope Christian Ministries in Denver.
